S.E. Hinting
After completing chapter 6, the reader may be surprised to find that the novel is only halfway finished. It seems the loose ends could be tied up in another chapter or two. However, Hinton is not through telling her story. So to sustain the reader’s interest, she introduces several new elements of suspense!
Suspense arouses the reader’s curiosity by asking a question which may be answered later on. But Hinton does more than just ask suspenseful questions. Like a good mystery writer, she teases the reader further by hinting at possible answers.
