COMLEX TASK
Using the writing process, students will write a short story based on a real or fictional character, targeting an audience aged 8-12. Maximum of 360 words.

*Short Story Competition deadline is March 14th!! You could become a published author! See in class for details. All entries welcome! I will submit them together as a school entry.*

LEARNING ACTIVITIES
- Answer pre-task questions
- Look at children’s books and listen to stories to gather ideas
- Brainstorm ideas using a word web
- Create a story outline using a plot diagram
- Revise and edit plot diagram with a partner
- Research characters and setting for the story
- Write a first draft
- Peer edit: revise and edit draft using a thesaurus and dictionary
- Write a final draft of your story in blue or black ink or on the computer

- Create a title page and one illustration (does not need to be hand drawn) to suit the story.
- Write a one paragraph “About the Author” for the back of your story.
- Answer reflective questions
- Participate in “book signing event” where we share our stories in class. Date to be determined.
