Literature Circles: Overview, Discussion and Reflection Questions (see below).
The following novels make up our Literature Circles under the theme of friendship: Stargirl, Crash, Freak the Mighty, When Zachary Beaver Came to Town and Up to Low.
During the 9 classes that make up our Literature Circles, students will have assigned readings per class, meet in discussion groups to share their graphic organizer with their ideas about the book, followed by discussion questions. At the end of the discussions, they return to their desks to answer daily Reflection Questions about the themes of friendship (present in all novel choices) and teamwork, which is the basis for Literature Circles . These questions need to be answered thoroughly in complete sentences, using the 3Es (explain, expand, example) as a guideline for a comprehensive answer. The journals are collected twice during this time. Students will also receive a talk mark as assessed by themselves, their team mates and by me.
